New York Fossils

New York Fossils
By Corey Lablans

Last summer I was collecting fossils in Fort Erie, along with a knowledgeable group, I believe it was the Niagara Peninsula Geological Society. One of the individuals (forget his name) just finished collecting fossils in the state of New York. He had a wide variety of fossils: Gastropods, Brachiopods, Horn Corals and many more. He gave me a few samples, which I finally got around to photographing the other day.

Nanticonema lineata (Gastropod) - Windom shale of the Moscow formation, Lakeview, New York

Favosites (Coral) - Centerfield member of the Ludloville formation, East Bethany, New York
Cystiphylloides (Coral) - Centerfield member of the Ludloville formation, East Bethany, New York
Athyris spiriferoides (Brachiopod) - Windom shale of the Moscow formation, Lakeview, New York

Brachiopods from the Ashlock Formation
By Corey Lablans

Every February the climbing club that I belong to heads down to Slade, Kentucky for some climbing at the Red River George. One of the days it was a too cold to go climbing, so a group of us decided to go on an adventure, seeking out fossils. No particular goal or location in mind but merely to go driving and check out some road cuts.
Here are some of the fossils that were found that day: Platystrophia ponderosa (Brachiopoda) from the Ashlock Formation in Kentucky

Thank you for checking out my blog.
